A
Bladder retension before incontinence

What are the symptoms of cauda equina ?
A
Usually have back pain (not always)
Saddle anaesthesia, altered bowel/ bladder function
Weakness can be one or both lower limbs

What can cause cauda equine?
A
Herniated/ ruptured disc (most common)
Spinal lesions/ infections/ stenosis

A
A RARE MEDICAL EMERGENCY

Where is the cauda equina in regards to the spine?
A
When the spinal cord ends
After L1, L2 area

how to diagnose/treat cauda equina syndrome ?
A
Urgent MRI Spine, analgesia
Referral to neurosurgeons for decompression (+ treat cause)
