muscle action. Flashcards
what is the difference between a ligament and a tendon?
ligament: bone to bone
tendon: attaches bone to muscle
what is the difference between the muscle pairs of the agonist and the antagonist?
agonist: contracting muscle
antagonist: relaxing muscle
when the are is in flexion (bending) what is the agonist?
biceps (shortest part) therefore meaning that they triceps is the longest part and is relaxed.
when the are is in flexion (bending) what is the antagonist?
triceps (shortest part) therefore meaning that the biceps is relaxed in the longest part.
what happens when the roles changes if the arm was extending (straightening)
- agonist becomes antagonist
- antagonist becomes agonist
how do muscles work in pairs?
antagonistic pair - to move a muscle a joint
