what is the description of IBS
muscles of large intestine that have abnormal rhythms
what are the symptoms of IBS?
constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloated feeling, indigestion and flatulence.
what are the dietary triggers of IBS?
alcohol, fizzy drinks, fried foods, processed foods and stress.
what is the treatment for IBS?
a food diary with notes of any symptoms, use fresh ingredients, regular exercise and try to stay relaxed.
what is gallstones?
crystals formed in the gallbladder, due to the imbalance of bile. high levels of cholesterol which results in crystal formations ranging up to a pebble size.
what are the symptoms of gallstones?
discomfort (after eating fats), fever, nausea and jaundice
what are the causes of gallstones?
alcohol, female, 40 years old, liver damage, IBS, family history
what is the treatment of gallstones?
avoid high amounts of fats and lithotripsy
what is coeliac disease?
wheat flour proteins tiggers our immune system to mistake our body tissue as being harmful and attacks it. the villi in the small intestine’s walls are flattened and destroyed, the inflammation reduces nutrients absorption.
what are the symptoms of coeliac disease?
abdominal pain, bloating, weightless, diarrhoea, flatulence, osteoporosis and anaemia.
what are the risk factors of coeliac disease?
family history, childhood gut infection that might trigger later on.
what are the treatments for coeliac disease?
- checking food labels.
- endoscopy.
- biopsy.
what is an ultrasound?
using a high frequency sound to generate internal images of structures within the body, echo from object are interpreted by computer.
what is lithotripsy?
ultra shock waves to break down gallstones, into smaller particles to pass through the body.
what is an endoscopy?
allows doctors to see inside a humans body, a camera is at the end of a flexible tube.
