blood. Flashcards
Plasma component: antibodies
Proteins made in the immune system
White blood cells: monocytes
Remove dead cells and bacteria
Preventing infections?
White blood cells are a part your mean system which respond to pathogens. Causing neutrophils and lymphocytes to recognise the treats forming Bacteria and antibodies
Plasma component: glucose
Nutrient needs for energy
White blood cells: neutrophils
B-type cells produce antibodies
Transporting blood
Red blood cells have an iron containing protein called haemoglobin.
What does oxygen and haemoglobin create?
Oxyhaemoglobin which goes to the body tissues
Temperature regulation?
Millions of chemical reactions which regulated by enzymes to produce heat
Exchange of materials in body tissues
Capillaries: only blood vessels that is thin enough for gas exchange to happen and nutrients to pass through
What is diffusion?
The materials moving between blood and tissue from low to high concentrations
What do antibodies do?
They lock and immobilise where monocytes Kill them
Blood clotting: how much blood do we have in our body and how much can we lose until it kills us?
We have 5 L of blood, losing 2 L can kill us
Platelets roles?
Platelets convert soluble fibrinogen to insoluble fibrin, this process is called coagulation
Plasma component: urea
Poisonous waste product from protein
How much of the blood is plasma
About 55%
