multi trait inheritance (genetics) Flashcards
Monohybrid meaning
based on 1 characteristic (i.e., plant height)
controlled by 1 gene
Dihybrid Cross
based on 2 characteristics
controlled by 2 genes
consists of heterozygous alleles
what is a dihybrid cross used for?
based on 2 characterisitcs
controlled by 2 genes
(these genes can be continous or discontinious)
what are mendels laws?
-> each pair of alleles segrgate independently during gamate formation (have their own section to cross)
-> heterozygous parents with 2 traits will produce 4 possible gamates (combinations of alleles)
what is the product law?
The probability of 2 independent random events both occurring, is the product of the individual probabilities of the events
->how likely is something foing to happen, add the probabilities together as more events pair together
discontinious variation
when the expression of the products of one gene has no effect on the expression of the products of a second gene
continious variation
when the product of one gene is affected by the product of another gene
the gene products may be additive or one product may negate the other product
