Energy cannot be created nor destroyed - it can only be converted from one form to another
Second Law of Thermodynamics
As energy is used, entropy increases (some of it is lost as heat)

Total amount of carbon taken up by plants.
NPP
GPP minus respiration (R).
Parasitism
An interaction in which one organism lives on or in another organism
Mutualism
An interaction between two species that increase the chances of survival or reproduction for both species
Commensalism
A relationship between species in which one benefits & the other is neither harmed nor helped
Competition
The struggle of individuals to obtain a shared limited resource. Exclusion principle states that two species competing for the same limiting resource cannot coexist.
