energy
breast milk or formula meets all energy needs for infant until they are 4-6 months old
Fat
children younger than 2 require more than 30% dietary fat for neural development
- Transition to whole cows milk at 12 months, continue until at least 24 months old
vitamins
should have an adequate source of vitamin C after 4-6 months old
- recommend a healthy diet
Iron
- breastfed usually have adequate iron supply until 4-6 months
- premature or low birth wt babies EBF require supplementation for first 12 months
- fed cows milk before 12 months at risk for iron deficiency

colic
P: peak of crying
- baby may cry more each week, peak in month 2
U: unexpected
- crying comes and goes with no reasoning
R: resists soothing
- baby may not stop crying no matter what
P: pain-like face
- crying baby may look like they are in pain
L: long lasting
- crying can last as much as 5 hours a day.
E: evening
- baby may cry more in the later afternoon or evening
