Unsatisfactory cytology any age
No HPV result
- re-screen in 2-4months
unsatisfactory cytology >25 negative HPV
re-screen in 2-4 months
unsatisfactory cytology >25 positive HPV
No genotype: re-screen in 2-4 months or refer to colposcopy
Genotype 16 or 18: refer to colposcopy
No transformation zone/endocervical cells 21-29
routine screening (Q3 years)
No transformation zone/endocervical cells 30 or greater Positive HPV
Repeat in 1 year
No transformation zone/endocervical cells 30 or greater, Negative HPV
Routine screening
No transformation zone/endocervical cells, 30 or greater, unknown HPV
if able order the HPV testing or retest in 3 years.
ASC-US
atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance
- changes to cells found, but no identified cause.
LSIL
low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion
- changes to cervical cells mildly abnormal
- can regress on own
HSIL
high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion
- changes noted to cervical cells,
- more serious than LSIL
- may be cancerous or pre-cancer
ASC-H
atypical squamous cells, cannot exclude HSIL
- changes in cervical cells which HSIL cannot be excluded
AGC
atypical glandular cells
- concern for cancer
Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN)
higher grade more likely to progress to cancer
grades 1-3
Annual paps for high risk
