modelling and testing Flashcards
what does modelling allow?
-allows you to see the product in 3D
-allows the client to test out the product
-allows you to see details of functionality and construction more clearly
-see proportions and sizes clearly
what materials are mostly used for modelling and why?
calico- it’s cheap and very basic
why is evidence of development crucial?
it demonstrates the ability to refine, evaluate and test out an idea
what is a virtual model?
a model produced using CAD software to understand the product without actually making it
what is a toile?
a full size mock-up of a product
what should you test in a product?
-ergonomics of a product to make sure it suits the user
-materials and construction methods to ensure success
-surface finishes can be sampled and tested for suitability
what three other things will you need to do along with testing?
-evaluate results
-carry out improvement
-refine your design
what could you use to help you with testing?
your design specification- you can use it as a checklist and can help you evaluate your project progress
you can also use summative evaluation- compare your prototype to similar products on the market
what are some examples of iterative design?
- testing and evaluating models
- getting regular feedback from clients
3.making lots of models - using CAD to show a range of solutions
what is iterative design?
making small changes and developing throughout the design and modelling stages
