feedback and other design stuff Flashcards
what is iterative design?
using prototypes, testing and analysis to refine a product. modelling will allow you to test out your ideas and help solve problems leading to further design development.
what is biomimicry?
the design of products modelled on nature (e.g fibonnaci sequence)
what is design through customer feedback?
getting feedback on a design from a customer and developing the idea. this can help a product evolve when alternative suggestions are put forward. focus groups can be used to do this when testing a new product.
what is a manufacturing specification?
all the information needed to make the product and the fabrics involved
it includes:
materials
components
tools
health and safety
sequence of making
tolerances
what is primary research?
collecting research first hand for yourself e.g questionaires, interviews, observations and tests
what is secondary research?
using research that somebody else has already collected e.g books, magazines, and the internet.
who is market research carried out by?
manufacturers- in order to gain an understanding of the person or people that they think will use their product
what is open question interviews?
questions were the person interviewed has more freedom in their answer to a question
what is a closed question interview?
questions where the person interviewed answers with a simple yes or no response
what is ergonomics?
the way in which a user interacts with their environment and ensuring that they are comfortable
what are anthropometrics?
measurements taken from the human body and used to ensure the product fits the intended user or group
what is a focus group?
a large group of people who feed back their opinions
