transfering printed designs from paper onto fabric- can also be used to pleat fabrics and create special effects

what does a standard sewing machine do?
joins fabric and does simple embroidery- it has limited options and features
what does an embroidery machine do?
has additional features to a standard machine and can create lots of different decorational features
what does a computerised machine do?
it is an advanced sewing machine with many features and it is controlled by a computer and can produce digitalised designs
what is an overlocker?
a specialised sewing machine used for joining and finishing fabrics- it also gives seams a professional finish and can also be used decoratively
what are knitting machines used for?
-used to create fabrics, garments and textile products that are patterned or textured- they can also be linked up to a computer to speed up the process
what are weaving looms?
hand, ground, backstrap and frame looms are used to produce fabrics- these can also be linked to a computer
what are pinking sheers?s
scissors that have a serrated /zigzag edge for finishing off edges of fabrics to prevent fraying or to produce decorated edges
what can tape measures be?
curved which is easier to measure the curve of the human body for more accurate measurements
what are embroidery frames?
used to hold the fabric in place and can be used for hand or machine embroidery
