A
In the liver - excreted by the kidneys

Midazolam Indications
A
- Seizures - continuous/recurrent
- Convulsions associated with Lignocaine toxicity
- Sedation in the aggitated pt
- Sedation in psychostimulant OD
- RSI
- Sedation to enable intubation
- Sedation to maintain intubation
- Sedation to enable synchronised cardioversion

Midazolam Contraindications
A
Known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines

Midazolam Precautions
A
- Pts with myasthenia gravis
- Can cause severe respiratory depression in pts with COPD
- CNS depressant effects of benzo’s are enhanced in the presence of narcotics and other tranquillisers including alcohol
- Reduced doses may be required for the elderly, pts with chronic renal failure, CCF or shock
