Pharmacology of Glucgon
Hormone normally secreted by the pancreas
Actions:
Causes an increase in blood glucose concentration by converting stored liver glycogen to glucose
Metabolism of Glucagon
Mainly by the liver, also by the kidneys and in the plasma
Glucagon Indications
Diabetic hypoglycaemia (BGL s with an ACS who are unable to self-administer oral glucose

Nausea and Vomiting (rare)

Onset: 3-5min
Duration: 12-15min
Glucagon Special Notes
Not all pt’s will respond to Glucagon, for example those with inadequate glycogen storage in the liver - alcoholics, malnourishment
