- Antiemetic which accelerates gastric emptying and peristalsis
- Mild SHT3-receptor antagonist

A
By the liver and excreted by the kidneys

Metoclopramide Indications
A
Nausea/Vomiting associated with:
- Chest pain/discomfort of a cardiac nature
- Opiod administration for pain
- Previously diagnosed migrane
- Severe gastroenteritis
- Eye trauma
- Cytotoxic or radiotherpy
- Treatment or prophylaxis in awake spinal immobilised pts

Metoclopramide Contraindications
A
- Suspected bowel obstruction or perforation
- Children
- GI haemorrhage

Metoclopramide Precautions
A
- Undiagnosed abdo pain
- Adolescents (<20yrs)
- Administer slowly over one minute to minimise risk of extrapyramidial reactions
