LUMBAR VERTEBRAE/SACRUM Flashcards
have massive block-like bodies and short, thick almost square spinous processes extending directly backward.
five lumber vertebrae (L1 through L5)
In _______ of the Lumbar vertebrae, it demonstrate the “Scotty Dog” sign
True Oblique
Scooty dog sign wherein
nose

the front leg.
Transverse process =
Pedicle =
Pars Interarticularis =
Superior articular facet =
Inferior articular facet =
is a composite bone formed from the fusion of five vertebrae. Superiorly, it articulate with L5, and inferiorly it connect with the coccyx. The median sacral crest is a remnant of the spinous processes of the fused vertebrae.
Sacrum
The vertebral canal continues inside the sacrum as the sacral canal and terminates near the coccyx via an enlarged opening called the
sacral hiatus.
– is made up of five fused bodies.
Body of Sacrum
– is the prominent upper anterior edge of the sacrum and is important anatomical landmark for obstetricians
Sacral Promontory
– is a passage that extends from top to bottom of the sacrum.
Sacral Canal
– are 16 openings, eight in front and eight posteriorly which the sacral nerves leave the spinal cord through these openings.
Sacral Foramina
– are those parts of the sacrum lateral to the foramina that corresponds to a fused transverse processes.
Lateral Masses
- are the wing-like upper parts of the lateral masses on each side that extend laterally from the 1st sacral segment.
Ala/Alae /Wing
– are 2 processes which extends up from the posterior part of the upper sacrum to form the joint with the 5th lumbar body.
Superior Articular Processes
– are two small projections that extend down from the lower sacrum.
