Long term control of BP Flashcards
The kidneys regulate
plasma volume
3 hormone systems that regulate the kidneys
renin-aldosterone system
antidiuretic factor (ADH)
Atrial natriuretic peptide
Where is renin produced?
juxtaglomerular of the kidney
what tiggers renin production?
activation of sympathetic nerves
decreased distention of afferent arterioles (the ‘renal baroreflex’)
decrease delivery of Na+Cl- through the tubule
What does renin do?
converts angiotensin to angiotensin I
which then gets converted into angiotensin II
What does angiotensin II do?
simulated release of aldosterone
increases release of ADH
vasoconstricts
where is ADH produced and released?
hypothalamus
pituitary gland
what triggers ADH (vasopressin) release?
low blood volume
increase in osmolarity of interstitial fluid
circulating angiotensin II
What does ADH do?
vasoconstriction
increases permeability of collecting duct to H2O
Where is ANP produced?
myocardial cells in the atria
What triggers ANP release?
increased distension of the atrium
What does ANP do?
increases excretion of NA (Natriuresis)
inhibits release of renin
acts on medullary CV centres to reduce MAP
