Ischcaemia and Infarction Flashcards
Ischaemia
relative lack of blood supply to the tissue/organ leading to inadequate oxygen supply to meet the needs of the tissue
Anaemic
normal inspired oxygen but blood oxygen is abnormal
Factors effecting oxygen supply
inspired oxygen
pulmonary function
blood constituents
blood flow
integrate of vasculature
tissue mechanisms
risk factors for ischaemic heart disease
coronary artery atheroma
cardiac failure (flow)
anaemia
ulcerated/ fissured plaques can lead to thrombosis which then leads to
ischaemia/ infarction
clinical consequences of ischaemia
MI
cerebral infarction
aortic aneurysm
peripheral vascular disease
cardiac failure
aetiology of infarction is the
cessation of blood flow
examples of aetiology of infarction
thrombosis
embolism
trauma
acute infarcts are classified as to whether there is an
elevation of the ST segments on the ECG
