Liver - lecture video Flashcards
what type of organ is the liver?
largest peritoneal organ
intraperitoenum (ventral mesentery)
what is the liver’s function?
produces protein & bile
metabolises nutrients
what is the remnant of the ventral mesetery (foregut)?
falciform ligament - divides liver (L&R lobes)
what are the L & R lobes of the liver?
anatomical lobes - NOT functional
what are the bare areas of the liver?
roughened areas in contact with the diaphragm
not covered by peritoneum
where is the gallbladder?
under the right lobe in the fossa for gallbladder
where does the inferior vena cava run through the liver?
posterior side of R lobe of liver
runs superior to inferior direction
what does the falciform ligament split into?
left and right coronary ligaments
what do the coronary ligaments do?
they reflect upon themselves to form the L & R triangular ligmanets
what do the L & R triangular ligaments attach?
the liver to the diaphram
how does the liver drain into the IVC?
via the hepatic veins
what does the liver attach to the stomach and via what?
the lesser curvature of the stomach via the lesser omentum & attach to the 1st part of the duodenum
(lesser omentum - hepatoduodenal & hepatogastric ligaments)
what is contained within the free edge of the lesser omentum?
bile duct, portal vein, hepatic artery
all connected to liver and other structures
part of hepatoduodenal ligament
what is the portal hepatis?
where structures enter & exit the liver (portal vein, hepatic artery, bile duct)
what and where are teh accessory lobes of the liver?
posterior caudate (nearer L) anterior quadrate (nearer R)
