blood supply to midgut & hindgut Flashcards
what are the branches of the abdominal aorta that supply the midgut & hindgut? include spinal level
superior (L1) and inferior (L3) mesenteric arteries
SMA behind ulcinate process of pancreas
what are the branches of the SMA?
middle colic
right colic
ileocolic
what are the branches which arise from the ileocolic?
cecal and ileo branch
supplies caecum and terminal ileum
what are the branches arising from the right colic artery?
inferior branch of right colic and superior branch
what does the inferior branch of the right colic join onto?
anastamoses with the ileocolic branch
what does the superior branch of right colic supply?
ascending colon via giving off branches along the length of ascending colon
what does the right colic anastamose with?
the middle colic
why does the right colic anastamose with the middle colic artery?
to continue blood supply from the ascending to the transverse colon
what does the middle colic from SMA supply?
the transverse colon (middle colon)
what are the branches of the middle colic artery?
left and right branch
what is the function of the left branch of middle colic artery?
to anastamose with right colic artery around hepatic / right colic flexure
what do the middle colic branches supply
the proximal 2/3 of transverse colon (up to the 3rd part of the duodenum)
runs above uncinate process of pancreas
what branches does the IMA give rise to?
left colic branch
sigmoid arteries
what does the IMA continue to become? where?
becomes the superior rectal artery, continuous of IMA beyond the pelvis
what does the middle colic artery (SMA) anastamose with?
left colic branches
