Masthead light
a white light placed
over the fore-and-aft centreline of the vessel
showing an unbroken light
over the arc of the horizon
of 225 degrees and
so fixed as to show
the light from right ahead to 22.5 degrees abaft the beam on either side of the vessel.
Sidelights
a green light on the stbd side &
a red light on the port side
each showing an unbroken light over the arc of the horizon of 112.5 degrees and so fixed to show the light from right ahead to 22.5 degrees abaft the beam on its respective side.
Sternlight
A white light
placed as nearly as practical at the stern showing an unbroken light over the arc of the horizon of
135 degrees and so fixed to show the light 67.5 degrees from right after on each side of the vessel.
Towing Light
a yellow light having the same characteristics as a stern light:
“placed as nearly as practical at the stern showing an unbroken light over the arc of the horizon of
135 degrees and so fixed to show the light 67.5 degrees from right after on each side of the vessel.”
All-round Light
a light showing an unbroken light over the arc of the horizon of 360 degrees
Flashing Light
a light flashing at regular intervals at a frequency of 120 flashes or more per minute.
Range of lights: 50m +
masthead light: 6 nm
sidelight: 3 nm
sternlight: 3 nm
towing light: 3 nm
all round light: 3 nm
Range of lights: more than 12m, less than 50m
masthead light: 5 nm (12 < 20m: 3 nm)
sidelight: 2 nm
sternlight: 2 nm
towing light: 2 nm
all round light: 2 nm
Range of lights: less than 12m
masthead light: 2 nm
sidelight: 1 nm
sternlight: 2 nm
towing light: 2 nm
all round light: 2 nm
Range of lights: inconspicuous, partly submerged vessels or objects being towed
white all round light: 3 nm
Sidelights (option for vessels <20m)
In a vessel of less than 20m in length, the side lights may be combined in one lantern carried on the fore-and-aft centreline of the vessel.
