- Take way off ship if safe to do so
- NUC lights, shapes and sound signals
- Prepare for anchoring if appropriate
- AIS status modified
- Inform VTS or Port authority
- Broadcast SAFETY or URGENCY message
- Maintain log

- Sound General Emergency Alarm
- Manoeuvre as appropriate/stop engines
- Close Watertight doors + fire doors
- Muster crew and passengers
- Conduct damage control procedures
- Broadcast DISTRESS or URGENCY message
- Sound tanks, bilges + void spaces
- Check for spills (internal and external)
- Inform VTS or Port authority
- VDR + ECDIS records preserved
- Maintain log

- Soundings taken around ship

- Crew instructed to don lifejackets + immersion suits
- Crew mustered
- Survival craft prepared for launch
- Collect EPIRB, SART + SOLAS Radios
- Survival Craft embarked
- Survival craft remain close to ship and in contact with each other
- EPRIB and SART activated
