however some treatments can have side effects such as anti-depressants can cause blurred vision, dry mouth, weight gain an constipation
can be effective with some people but only covers up the problem doesn’t cure it

used to treat depression and works by increasing cerain chemicals within the body

a hypertension medication that reduces blood pressure

to see if the drug phenelzine can help treat patients with social phobias

patients allocated to one of three conditins, treated over 8 weeks

80 participants meeting DSM criteria for social phobia

patients assessed given drugs gradual dosage increase then reassessed blind evaluators used to carryout clinical assessments

after 8 weeks there were significant differences noted in phenelzine groups
better scores on tests for anxiety compared to placebo
not difference between atenolol and placebo
what is the conclusion drawn from this research?
phenelzine but not atenolol is effective in treating social phobias
