Lesson 4B (Part 2) Flashcards
How many lobules are in each testis?
200-300
What are in each lobule?
1 to 4 convoluted loops composed of germinal epithelial cells known as seminiferous tubules
What are between the seminiferous tubules?
Groups of interstitial cells
What are interstitial cells also known as?
Cells of Leydig
What do the cells of Leydig do?
Secrete the hormone testosterone after puberty
What happens at the upper pole of the testis?
The tubules combine to form a single tubule
How long are the tubules?
6m
- repeatedly folded and tightly packed into a mass
What are the repeatedly folded and tightly packed into a mass known as?
Epididymis
How does the sperm leave the epididymis?
Through the vas deferences in the spermatic cord
What passes through the spermatic cord? (2)
- Blood vessels
2. Lymph vessels
Mediastinumtestis
Mass of connective tissue at the back of the testis that
encloses the rete testis
Rete testis
A network formed in the mediastinum testis by the seminiferous
tubules
How is the epididymis presented?
Single, tightly coiled tube enclosed in a fibrous casing
Where is the epididymis located?
Lies along the top and behind the testis
What are the 3 parts of the epididymis?
- Head
- Body
- Tail
