What is the hyoid bone?
Non articulated bone that is suspended from the temporal bones and serves for tongue and muscle attachment.
What is a fractured hyoid bone an indication of?
Strangulation as the cause of death.
What are sutures?
After intramembranous ossification of the flat bones of the skull is complete, a fibrous type of joint remains between them. These joints are considered immoveable and are known as sutures.
What is the sagittal suture?
The suture between the two parietal bones is the sagittal suture.
What is the lamboid suture?
Between the occipital and parietal bones.
Where is the coronal suture?
is bordered by the frontal and parietal bones.
Where is the squamous suture?
is primarily along the superior border of the temporal bone with the parietal bone
Where are the sinus cavities found?
Found in the frontal bone, ethmoid bone, sphenoid bone and both maxillary bones.
What are the functions of the sinuses?
The sinuses function to lighten the skull, provide resonance to our voices and assist in warming and humidifying the air during breathing.
An infection of what sinus is often misinterpreted to be a toothache?

What does the alveolar process do?
Supports the teeth.
What does the alveolar arch do?
It is formed by alveolar processes.
What does the palatine bone do?
L-Shaped bones.
