KA3- Circulatory Systems Flashcards
What type of circulatory systems do vertebrates have?
Closed circulatory systems where the blood is contained in a continuous circuit of blood vessels
What keeps a vertebrate’s circulatory system going?
A muscular pump (heart)
Where does the heart pump blood to?
Large vessels that branch into smaller and smaller vessels then to capillaries
What do capillaries do?
Leak
Are capillaries permeable?
Yes
Why are cells bathed in tissue fluid?
Allows exchange of materials
What type of circulatory system do fish have?
A single circulatory system
What happens to the blood in fish?
The blood passes through the two chambered heart only once for each circuit of the body
When does pressure drop in closed circulatory systems?
When blood passes through the capillaries
Why does pressure drop in closed circulatory systems?
The narrow tubes resist the flow of blood and the fluid leaks out of them as they are permeable
What type of pressure does blood flow to the gills?
High pressure
When do fish lose most of their pressure?
In the gill capillaries before it arrives at the body capillaries at a low pressure
How many times dies the blood pass through the heart in double circulation?
Twice for each competed circuit of the body
How many ventricles are there in an incomplete double circulatory system?
One
Does p2 and de-o2 blood mix in incomplete double circulatory systems?
Yes
