KA2- Gel Electrophoresis Flashcards
1
Q
What is gel electrophoresis?
A
A technique that can be used to compare samples of DNA
2
Q
What are restriction enzymes specific to?
A
A particular DNA sequence so each sample is being cut whenever that sequence happens
3
Q
What happens to the largest/heaviest fragments?
A
They are dropped first which creates a genetic fingerprint
4
Q
What happens during gel electrophoresis?
A
Mixture of fragments are loaded into a well, the current is switched on and fragments are dragged through the gel towards the positive electrode.
5
Q
What type of charge does DNA have?
A
Negative
