What is the reason for Korsakoff’s Syndrome
A
- lack of vitamin B1 or thiamine
- >caused by malnutrition, eating disorder and especially alcoholism

Why is thiamine important
A
- because it converts carbohydrates into glucose
- >also important for functioning of neurons

Is Korsakoff progressive
A
- not progressive, like alzheimer’s
- > if diagnosed, people can get better
-treatment typically includes thiamine injections, staying on a healthy diet, and vitamins

-individuals have trouble forming new memories and recalling old memories

What is amnesia
A
- it is a deficit in memory caused by brain damage, disease or psychological trauma
- > it can also be caused temporarily by the use of various sedatives and hypnotic drugs
