Chapter 2.5 Flashcards
What two aspects does bottom up processing include
-it includes feature detection and parallel processing
What is top down processing driven by
-it is driven by expectations and memories that allow the whole brain to recognize the object
Perceptual organization
- use both top down processing and bottom up processing
- >to create a complete picture or idea
What cues does depth perception depend on
-it depends on monocular and binocular cues
What do monocular cues include(hint there are five answers)
- relative size of objects
- partial obscuring of objects by another
- convergence of parallel lines at a distance
- position of an object in the visual field
- lighting and shadowing
What do binocular cues include(hint there are two answers)
- slight differences in images projected onto two retinas
- angle required between the two eyes to bring an object into focus
What is form of an object determined by
-it is determined through parallel processing and feature detection
What does constancy refer to
- refers to the idea that we perceive certain characteristics of objects to remain the same
- > even tho there is a change in the envrionment
-eg; we perceive a white piece of paper to remain the same in different lighting conditions
What law are Gestalt principles governed by
- they are governed by the Law of Pragnanz
- >perceptual organization is regular, simple and symmetric as possible
What are subjective contours
- perceiving contours
- >shapes that are not actually present within the stimulus
