What is a lexicon
- a set of vocabulary items
- >entire set of morphemes in a language
What is lexical access
-refers to identifying a word and connecting it to its meaning
What is syntax
-it refers to how words are put together in sentences
What are pragmatics
-they are dependence of language on context and pre-existing knowledge
What are the four parts of the limbic system
1) Hypothalamus
2) Amygdala
3) Thalamus
4) Hippocampus
What happens if you destroy the hippocampus
- if destroyed, still have old memories
- >just can’t make new ones
Which hemisphere responds more to positive emotions
- the right hemisphere does
- >the left hemisphere responds more to negative emotions
What happens to salivation in sympathetic system in comparison to the parasympathetic system
Sympathetic
->salivation decreases, while in sympathetic, salivation increases in parasympathetic

- >appraisal of what is happening, thoughts and expectations about the situation

- it is an innate ability

-experience of emotion is due to physiological responses

What is the Cannon-Bard theory for emotion
- his is the two factor theory of emotion
- > physiological response and emotion occur at the same time
-remember B is next to C so physiological response and emotion must occur at the same time
What is the Schacter-Singer model for emotion
- it is the two factor theory of emotion
- there is a physiological response
- > then identify reason for the physiological response
- > then you experience emotion
What is the Yerkes Dodson Law
- people perform best when they are moderately aroused
- >moderate emotions= optimimum memory recall
