Injury Prevention Flashcards
What is screening?
A test or questions used to identify any problems.
What are the purposes of screening?
• Identify past or current injuries and prevent further injuries
• Identify muscle imbalances, assess joint mobility and identify postural weaknesses
• Identify cardiac risks or other general risks
• Identify suitable rehabilitation programmes
Give examples of protective equipment
Shin pads, gum shield, goalie gloves
What is the purpose of a warm-up?
• Raise body temperature
• Increased blood flow (thus increased O2 availability) to the muscles
• Increased elasticity of the muscles
• Prepare joints and tendons for strenuous activity
• Increased heart rate
• Increased respiratory rate
What are the four types of flexibility training?
• Ballistic - using swinging and bouncing movements
• Active - when a stretched position is held by the contraction of an agonist muscle
• Passive - use of an external force to help the stretched position
• Static - when a muscle is held in a stationary position for 10 seconds or more
What can you use to secure weak joints?
Taping and bracing
