Q

What are the cons of altitude training?

A

• Won’t be able to train as hard due to lack of O2 (may cause a loss of fitness)

• Can cause altitude sickness

• Benefits lost after a few days back at sea level

• Psychological problems being away from home

Q

Why does altitude training cause an increase in RBC production?

A

There is a low pO2, which stimulates EPO production (which stimulates increased RBC production)

Q

What are the three phases of plyometrics?

A

• Eccentric - on landing, the muscle performs an eccentric contraction (lengthens under tension)

• Amortisation - the time between eccentric and concentric. When an eccentric contraction occurs, a lot of the energy required to stretch or lengthen the muscle is lost as heat, but some of the energy can be stored and used for the concentric contraction

• Concentric - uses the stored energy to increase the force of contraction

Q

What are the main principles and benefits of SAQ training?

A

• Involves being coached correct technique for movements

• Involves progression exercises to improve motor abilities to do skills faster and with more accuracy

• Improved muscular power

• Improves kinaesthesis

• Improved motor skills

• Improved reaction time
