Impetigo Flashcards
How long do impetigo symptoms last for?
7-10 days
Symptoms of non-bullous impetigo
Red sores/blisters which burst quickly and leave crusty golden brown patches (look like cornflakes). These patches are itchy and can get bigger and spread to other parts of the body.
Symptoms of bullous impetigo
Fluid filled blisters appear on the abdomen and limbs. After a few days they burst and produce a yellow crust which dry and heal.
Usually accompanied by fever and swollen glands.
Non-bullous impetigo OTC treatment
If minor/localised: 1% hydrogen peroxide cream (antiseptic) 2-3x a day for 5 days
If more widespread/severe refer to GP to get 2% fusidic acid cream (antibiotic)
