What are some alternative diagnosis to dandruff?
A
Ringworm = red or silver rash on scalp, sometimes with patchy hair loss.
Eczema - dry, red, flaky, itchy skin on areas of body.
Psoriasis - red, flaky, crusty, sore patches of skin covered with silvery scales.
Cradle cap - greasy, yellowish crusts on babys scalp.
Seborrheic dermatitis - scaly, itchy, red patches on scalp, face, and elsewhere

What can be used to treat dandruff?
A
Shampoo containing one of:
Zinc pyrithione
Salicylic acid
Selenium sulphide
Ketoconazole
Coal tar

Dandruff referral
A
Symptoms persist after 1 month of appropriate treatment
Severe flakiness or itchiness
Redness and swelling
Spreading to other areas.
Indication of another rash.
