Immunology Part 6 Flashcards
What is bacteria transmitted through?
Water droplets, contact, contaminated food, vectors
How does bacteria reproduce and how can it be treated?
Reproduce through binary fission and can be treated with antibiotics
How are viruses transmitted?
Coughing or sneezing, direct contact with bodily fluids
How do viruses reproduce and how can they be treated?
Reproduce by taking over mechanics of cells to make copies, treated with antiviral drugs to interrupt the life cycle of the virus
How are prions transmitted?
Through eating contaminated nervous tissue
How are prions reproduced and how can they be treated?
When a prion meets a normal protein and changes it to the prion form, no current treatment
How are protozoa transmitted?
Through contaminated water and vectors
What is the treatment for protozoa?
Drugs such as anti-malarial
What are the metabolic requirements for fungi and worms?
All fungi and worms are heterotrophic
How are fungi transmitted and how can they be treated?
Through contact with spores, treated includes fungicides
How are fungi reproduced?
Either sexually or asexually, through spores or binary fission
How are worms transmitted and how can they be treated?
Through ingestion of eggs, treatment includes worming tablets or surgery
How do worms reproduce?
Sexually, some worms are hermaphrodites
How are arthropods transmitted?
Moving from host to host, larvae on grass or walking through an infected area
What is the treatment for arthropods?
Insecticides
