Homeostasis Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
The regulation of the internal conditions of a cell/ organism to maintain optimum conditions for it to function and respond to internal/external changes
What is the use of homeostasis?
To keep conditions as constant as possible
So enzymes in our body can function and carry out changes
What does homeostasis consist of?
Automatic control systems to make sure internal conditions stay as possible
Automatic control system in a human body
Nervous system
Hormones
Automatic control system consists of?
Receptor cells = detect stimulus
Co-ordination centre = receives and processes information passed to them
Effector = muscle or gland that carries out response to restore optimum level
What could a stimulus be for a human?
External conditions ie excessive temperature on skin when burnt
Or internal conditions like blood glucose level
