Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes Flashcards
What are eukaryotic cells and give an example
A type of cell that has a nucleus
Includes plant cells and animal cells
What are prokaryotic cells and give an example
A cell that has no nucleus and the DNA is free in the cytoplasm
Includes bacteria
Prokaryotes contents
Cell wall
Cell membrane
Flagellum
Ribosomes
One loop of DNA
Plasmids
Cytoplasm
Pili
Differences in Prokaryotes vs Eukaryotes (animal cell)
E has a nucleus, P has one main loop of DNA and extra plasmids free in cytoplasm
E undergoes mitosis, P undergoes binary fission
E has a mitochondria, P does not
E is a lot larger than P
E has no cell wall, P does
Similarities in prokaryotes and eukaryotes (animal cell)
Both have ribosomes
Both have cell membrane
Both have cytoplasm
In some cases eg sperm cells both have flagellum
Differences in Prokaryotes vs Eukaryotes (plant cells)
P has no chloroplasts
E has a nucleus P doesn’t
E undergoes mitosis, P undergoes binary fission
E has no pili flagellum
