Hepatic Vasculature Flashcards
What do the hepatic veins do?
Drain blood from liver into IVC
How does fluid move in the liver?
Oblique excursion in the liver. It flows from anterior to posterior
Where is the Hepatic veins located?
Intersegmental fissures
Where does the hepatic veins join the IVC?
Just inferior to diaphragm
Where does the hepatic veins widen?
It widens in the direction of the IVC as they approached the IVC
How much blood does the hepatic artery supply to the liver?
Approx 20-30%
What are the two branches of the hepatic artery?
- Common hepatic
- Hepatic artery proper
What is the common hepatic?
Courses from origin of celiac axis to junction of GDA (gastroduodenal artery). So it courses to the right side
What is the hepatic artery proper?
Courses from the GDA to the bifurcation of the right and left hepatic Arteries. Course towards the right side
What are hepatic artery proper?
Courses from the GDA to the bifurcation: off the right and left. It also travels superior a and right part of the portal triad
What is the porta hepatic?
Exits/ entrances to the liver, it is also called the hilum of the liver
What is the portal triad?
Consists of HA, PV, and BD
Where is the HAP positioned in regards to common bile duct?
Medial
The HAP is positioned ______ to main port vein?
Anterior
What is the Right and left hepatic arteries?
Intrahepatic vessels that travel in unison with BD and branch
What is the portal Venus system?
Carries nutrient from GI tract and supplies roughly 70-80% of blood to liver
Does the Post venous system connect the directly wit the IVC?
Does not
The vessel walls of the Portal venous system has brighter scrub walls compared to what?
Hepatic veins on US
The MPV is formed by the union of what?
The SMV and SV
What does the SMV do?
Drains right small intestine, ascending and transverse colon?
What is the portal confluence?
Junction of SMV with SV, which is also the origin of the main portal vein
What does the splenic vein do?
Drains spleen pancreas and stomach
Where does the splenic vein course?
From the splenic hilum to join SMV. It also travels along the posterior surface of pancreatic body and tail.
In terms of the Splenic artery where does the Splenic vein sit?
Inferior
Where does the splenic vein terminate?
Behind the neck of the pancreas at the portal of influence
In terms of the IVC, SMA, and Renal vessels, where does the SV sit?
Anterior
What does the inferior mesenteric vein do?
Drains the left small bowel, descending colon, sigmoid and rectum
Where does the Splenic vein join the portal of confluence?
Posterior to the body of the pancreas
Is the IMV seen with ultrasound?
No commonly
Where is the origin of the main portal vein?
Junction of SMV and SV, and ascends obliquely towards the right.
Where is the MPV formed?
Behind the neck of the pancreas
Where does the MPV enter in the liver?
At the porta hepatic, posterior to the hepatic artery proper and binary ducts (CBD and CHD).
Does the Main portal veins bifurcates?
Yes it bifurcates into left and right portal veins at liver hilum
What is the RPV?
Intrasegmental portal veins, anterior and posterior branches within the right lobe
What is the LPV
Intrasegmental portal veins which ascends anteriorly and divides into medial and lateral branches within the left lobe
The liver has dual blood supply? From where?
- Hepatic artery
- Portal veins
