H5 - Describe Winders - LT #1 Flashcards
What are winders?
Group of angled tread that turn either 45 degree or 30 degree to allow a stairway to turn up to 90 degrees
When is the platform method of construction commonly used?
Platform method used when winders start at the bottom of a staircase.
When is the winder stringer method of construction commonly used?
Winder stringer method is used when the underside of winder is to be finished or if storage under the stair is a consideration. Winder stringers allow more space underneath.
Platform method winders - Lowest platform can be build by:
Resting on the lower floor, or be supported by walls, columns or hangers if they are midway up the stairs.
Platform method of winders works well when
Bottom box is built directly on the subfloor. Platform method is simpler to build than the stringer method but takes up more space.
An Individual winder can turn:
30 degrees or 45 degrees.
