What is a straight forward way to lay out winder stairs?

Answer 1

Laying at platform boxes or winder stringers, use a full size layout on the lower floor & walls.

How do you account for the risers when laying oout the winder stringers?

Answer 2

Riser thickness is different on each stringer. Sometimes angled, sometimes square, risers are laid out as adjustments, similar to a rafter adjustment in that they are made directly on the stringer layout.

How does the slope of the outside winder stringer compare to the slope of the straight stringers above or below the winders?

Slope is shallower & flatter because risers is the same and runs longer.

How does the slope of the inside winder stringer compare to the slope of the straight stringers or below the winders?

Answer 4

Slope is steeper because rise is the same as the straight stringers but the runs are shorter.

What does the ledger technique of building winders involve?

Answer 5

Applying ledgers to the walls on eithers ide of the stair, this involves a full-size layout on the walls & ledgers cut and installed to the bottom of the tread and back of the riser.
