Bear Hug
1) “sit elbows up” (as you sit to the right)
2) “strike low” (as you hit opponent in groin …or inner thigh for practice)
3) “step behind, wrap-up the arm” (as step with your left foot facing the blade of their right foot and wrap your left arm over and around their right arm, touching your hand flat against your heart)
4) “grab the tricep, front-up, strike” (as you step with your right foot, first so that you are directly in-front of them, as you transition your left hand to their tricep, pull your right hand back (as if for a knife-hand) strike the side of their neck and pivot on your back (right) foot for power.

hands touching cheeks (like boxing ..for protection)
straight-punch (right-side then left-side): body(rh), body(lh), head(rh), head(lh)
hook-punch (exaggerate with hand up by top of head):
body (r), body(l), head(r), head(l)
elbow-spear (both sides: right then left): draw elbow back into their thigh, then strike their face
elbow-smash: right then left -> lift hand-up high (fist aiming toward side of your head) dropdown with your body weight smashing their face, place your other arm beside their head to catch yourself)
lift right hand above head and smash their face
lift left hand above your head and smash their face
lift both hands above your head and smash their face
6-basic Stick Strikes
(Adult only)
hold stick in-front, with both hands on the side of the stick
bring stick up to chest for strong ready-position
extend it down in front, at belt-level
1) step back with right foot, place left hand on chest (below neck), step forward and strike left-side of opponents head
2) step forward left foot, place left hand on chest (below neck), strike right-side of opponents head
3) step back w/ right foot, hand on chest, step forward and strike mid-section
4) step forward with left foot, hand on chest, strike mid-section
5) step back right foot w/ left hand over top of front of stick, then place left hand on chest, step forward and poke the opponent’s solarplexius
6) step back right foot w/ left hand over top of front of stick, then place left hand on chest, step forward and poke the opponents left-collar bone
7) step forward left-foot placing left hand on chest, and angling stick to poke the opponents right-collar bone
Keys to Looking Good w/ Sticks
stance: neutral (slight fighting stance, and rock back and forth as you strike/block)
full-range of motion: don’t just strike with the wrist, but bring stick all the way from chamber (i.e. over shoulder) and get a good extension of your elbow (as if you hammering with a hammer)
ready-position: (timed with your partner. don’t just put stick down at belt level when you step back to neutral, but bring it all the way upto chest first)
Basic Stick Blocks
step forward with right foot
holding stick in right hand, angled straight up and down
place left hand across stick (near middle)
block the head- (or mid-)strike
(^that blocks strikes 1 & 3)
step forward left foot
holding stick in right hand, angled straight up and down
place left hand across stick (near middle)
block the head- (or mid-)strike
(^ that blocks stikes 2 & 4)
step back with left foot, pivot sideways (facing left)
right hand holding stick, comes over the top (back of your fist in front of your face, knuckles facing your left side), place right hand near middle of stick and block beside the in-coming poke.
single and double sinawali
hit sticks with your partner: at top & bottom on alternating sides:
strikes 1 & 3 on one side
then 2 & 4 on the other side
chamber the stick over your shoulder between the two strikes
