Mechanism of action of ursodiol

A

Naturally occurring bile acid
Decreases cholesterol content of bile by reducing hepatic cholesterol secretion
Aids dissolution of small cholesterol gallstones, also used in primary biliary cirrhosis (replaces other more toxic endogenous bile acids)
