LOOP DIURETIC
ACTIONS
INHIBITS SODIUM AND CHLORIDE REABSORPTION IN THE PROXIMAL TUBE TUBULE AND LOOP OF HENLE WHICH DRAWS WATER WITH IT AND CAUSES DIURESIS. THIS EFFECT OCCURS ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER IV DOSE.
DIRECT VENODILATING EFFECTS WHICH DECREASES VENOUS RETURN TO THE HEART (DECREASES PRELOAD). THIS EFFECT IS SEEN BEFORE THE DIURESIS EFFECT.

SIGNS OF HYPOKALEMIA, POSTURAL HYPOTENSION, MALAISE, FATIGUE, LEG CRAMPS, WEAKNESS
PRECAUTIONS
AUSCULTATE LUNGS BEFORE AND AFTER ADMINISTRATION
MAY POTENTIATE EFFECTS OF DIGITALIS
