where should you make the first cut when trimming hooves in cattle
the tip of the claw, 90 mm from the coronary band

starting with the least overgrown claw, trim the bottom third of the toe until the step is reduced to 5mm thick. the heel should not need triming
- test thickness by pressing hard into the sole with thumb. as soon as any give can be perceived, no more sole can be removed and trimming should cease in this area.

- stand to left of the foot/cow
- hold right handed knife in right hand with closed grip and place left hand over right hand for additional support
- trim the claw closest to you
- cut down toward the toe, using your bodyweight to gently apply downward pressure

- hold right handed knife in right hand with an open grip, holding the toe with your left hand for stability

- cut upward towards the heel
