Filoviridae Flashcards
Two virus of filoviridae that need to be known
Ebola and Marburg
Nucleic acid of filoviridae virus
negative ; RNA
Physical structure of filoviridae virus
Filamentous ; enveloped
Overall damage by filoviridae virus
Microvasculature resulting in increased vascular permeability and cause severe or fatal hemorrhage
Structure of nucleocapsid
Helical ; enclosed in an envelope containing one glycoprotein
Location of replication
Cytoplasm
Major complication of ebola or marbug
Hemorrhagic fever following incubation period 3-8 days
Initial symptoms of filoviridae
- flu like symptoms like headache and myalgia
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Worsening symptoms of filoviridae
- Nausea, vomiting, pains, edema, headache, coma
- Mucosal hemorrhage, macropapular rash
- death due to metabolic disturbances, shock
Ebola virus typical pathway through human being
- Day 7-9; first symptoms of headache, fatigue, fever, muscle soreness
- Day 10; sudden high fever, vomiting blood, passive
- Day 11; bruising, brain damage, bleeding orifices
- Day 12; loss of consciousness, seizures, BLEEDING, death
Pathogenesis of filoviridae
-direct contact with body fluid, maybe skin/mucous
Ebola characteristic
-destruction of the immune system
Destruction of the endothelial cells leading to vascular injury due to
Ebola glycoprotein
Pathway of the cells entering and causing damage

Control of filoviridae
None, no treatment
