FCTM (Airbus Operational Philosophy) Flashcards
What is the priority of design requirement ?
Safety, passenger comfort, efficiency
What is the layout of airbus cockpit and the purpose of it ?
Forward facing layout
=>Help minimize “head down” time
What is the priciple of OVERHEAD panel design?
Vertical organized in order to accomplishment of Normal/Abnormal procedure in a straight forward and intuitive manner
What does upper light on a pb corresponde to ?
- Alert or system status (e.g. FAULT light, OPEN light).
- If no alert or system status is required, two gray dot repalce the light.
What does lower light on a pb corresponde to ?
- On pb switch, to control selection of system (e.g. ON, OFF, OVRD)
- On pb, to system status
If no control system is required, two gray dot replace the light.
What is general operational rule ?
LIGHT OUT philosophy aka DARK COCKPIT
Meaning: systems are ready and fit to fly
What are the colour codes of Pb/Pb switch ?
* Amber
* Red
* Green
* Blue
* White
* Blank
- Amber: system is failed
- Red: failure required immediate action
- Green: operate normally
- Blue: normal operation of temporarily selected system
- White: abnormal position or maintenance/test result
- Blank: fit to fly
What is flight control protection purpose ?
To assist PF in emergency and stressful situation, not to protect structure limit
What PM must do when operate side stick ?
- Announce “I have control”
- Press and maintain sidestick pushbutton
What should be consider when in reconfiguration law ?
- At hight alt, fly 4000ft below REC MAX ALT to increase margin buffet
- At high speed, maneuver with care and use small input
What should be keep in mind when in DIRECT LAW ?
Avoid large thrust change and sudden speedbrake movements
What should be keep in mind when in MECHANICAL BACKUP ?
- Objective is to maintain A/C attitude safe and stablilized, in order to restoration of lost systems
- Use trim wheel smoothly as THS effect is significant
- To turn, apply rudder and wait for A/C reacion, release to level the wing
How to do supplementary procedure ?
- If related to engine start: read the entire procedure then action
- For other procedure: READ and DO
(PM read, PF do)
What is the responsibility of PM and PF during NORMAL PROCEDURE ?
PF
* Fly
* Navigate
PM
* Monitor
* Comunicate
What is the responsibility of PM and PF during ABNORMAL PROCEDURE ?
PF
* Fly
* Navigate
* Comunicate (after the initiation of ECAM action and QRH procedure)
PM
* Monitor
* Perform ECAM action and QRH procedure
Whose responsibility for using FCU ?
- With AP on is PF
- With AP off is PM(upon PF order)
Who can disconect AP ?
Only PF
Who can engage AP ?
- PF
- PM (upon PF order)
What is the purpose of BRIEFING ?
- To identify the threat that affect the operation and agreement on mitigation of those threat
- To identify the significant differences or deviations to “routine” operations
What data is required during briefing preparation ?
- Technical condition of A/C
- Route planning
- Weather
- Notam
- Load planing
- Company operational procedure
- Fuel planing
What is Departure Briefing structure ?
PM
* T/O RWY
* SID
* First clear alt
* MSA/MORA for climb trajectory
* Extral fuel and time
PF
* Hotspots of planned taxi route
* Stop margin for RTO
* EOSID
* Return/Diversion consideration
* Special operation
* Non-standard operation
Whai is Arrival Briefing structure ?
PM
* Arrival/Transition desginator
* MORA/MOCA/MSA
* STAR
* RWY, type of approach
* Approach minimum
* Go-around
* Extral fuel and time
PF
* Guidance for approach
* Landing flap setting
* Stop margin
* Use of reverse thrust
* Use of autobrake
* Planned RWY exit
* Hotspot for taxi in
* Special operation
* Non standard operation
What is the difference btw red LAND ASAP and amber LAND ASAP ?
- Red: land asap at the nearest airport at which safe landing can be made
- Amber: land asap at the nearest suitable airport (in accordance with Operator’s policy)
Which control action must be cross check ?
- ENG MASTER lever
- IR mode selector
- All guared controls
- Cockpits C/B
- Thrust Lever
What is the announce sequence when handling overhead panel control as required by ECAM/QRH/OEB ?
- Name of system
- Name of control or system reset
- The action
Exp: “Air, X-bleed, Close”
Exp: “Air, X-bleed, Close”
What should you do if during ECAM action, ECAM warning disappears ?
Warning can be considered no longer applicable and application of procedure can be stop.
(Same for QRH)
What shoulde be check when ECAM warning appears ?
PM should check overheade panel and/or SD, in order to analyze and confirm failure.
What should pilot do first after STATUS page appears during ECAM procedure ?
Consider any normal C/L, system restet or any additional procedure.
What is ADVISORY alert ?
Enables flight crew to monitor the drifting parameter.
What should pilot do if ADVISORY appear ?
PM monitor drifting parameter
and refer to QRH if time permits
What is the purpose of EMER CANC pb ?
To delete both aural alert and caution for remainder of flight.
What are four Golden Rule of Airbus ?
- Fly, Navigate, Communicate
- Use appropriate level of automation at all time
- Understand FMA at all time
- Take action if things do not go as expected
