excretion system Flashcards
Organs involved in excretory system
Lungs
Skin (sweat, salt, urea, heat)
Liver (breakdown amino to urea)
Urinary system
major metabolic waste
CO2. excess water. excess mineral salts (build up during metabolism) nitrogen compounds (ammonia, urea, uric acid, breakdown of amino acids)
Liver
Removes worn out RBC, detoxification/deamination (alcohol), bile production, amino acids->urea
Urinary system
Kidneys (contain nephrons) ureter bladder urethra
Kidney function
Filters blood, removes metabolic waste/forms urine
Filtration in nephron
Dirty plasma moves from renal artery to cluster of capillaries (glomerulus) into filter (Bowmen’s capsule)
Reabsorption
Clean plasma moves from filter (Loop of Henle) back into capillary and renal vein
