Exam 3 Lab 11 Flashcards
Autosomal Disorder
A single abnormal gene on one of the first 22 chromosomes
It can be dominant or recessive
X-Linked disorder
Gene carried on the X chromosome that has nothing to do with gender
It actually mainly effects males due to them only having one X chromosome
Multiple Allele Inheritance
Gene has more than 2 possible alleles but each person only has 2. This is common in blood typing (ABO blood) there are IA, IA, and i and any combination of the two.
What types of Genetic abnormalities can be diagnosed with a karyotype
Having extra, or not enough chromosomes. The most common disorder is Trisomy 21, which is having 3 chromosome 21. This is downs syndrom
How does blood typing work?
IA carries A antigen
IB carries B antigen
i doesnt carry either antigen
Clotting indicates the blood type as well as Rh+/-
What do circles represent in pedigrees
Females
What do squares represent in pedigrees
Males
