Exam 2: Kines Chap 8 Flashcards
What does the elbow complex provide for the body?
motion at the elbow and the forearm
What structures does the forearm provide motion for?
the wrist and the hand!
What motions take place at the elbow?
flexion, extension, supination, pronation, medial rotation, lateral rotation
(practice these motions…again!)
What is the carrying angle?
the angle formed by the long axis of the humerus and forearm.
Do men or women typically have a greater carrying angle?
women typically are 10 to 15 degrees and men are 5 degrees.
What is so important about a carrying angle?
improves function as this angle brings the hand to the mouth
What is the a strong and stable joint in the upper body?
the elbow!
The main topic of this chapter
How much force can the elbow joint withstand?
1-3 times the weight of the body
When is the bicep at its most powerful point?
when it is combined with forearm supination
What is a force couple?
the muscles that work together in opposite directions to produce stronger functional movement and stabilization.
