What are ethics?
Moral principals which govern a persons behaviour and conduct
What are the 6 ethical theories? CCCDRV
Contractarianism Consequentialism/utalitarianism Conservationist/naturalism Deontology Relational view Virtue
What is contractarianism?
Like our laws, contract between 2 people Mutually beneficial (e.g. vet/person), animal not involved as does not have morals
What is consequentialism/utalitarinism?
Consider well being for humans and animals equally
‘greater good for greatest number of people’
E.g. murder a murderer?
What is conservationist/naturalism?
Let nature take its course r.e. Extinction, no genetic modification
Protecting species rather than an individual
What is deontology?
Laws and rules
Some oppose/out weigh each other e.g. speeding/lateness
Outcome doesn’t matter as long as rules followed
What is relationalism?
Different species have different importance
Sociozoological scale
issue- rodents can be pests/pets/lab animals
What is virtue?
Using role model
‘What kind of person should I be’ not ‘what shall i do’
Attitudes taken into account as well as actions
