Sodium Vaproate
Carbamazepine

How do antiepileptics work?
A
Block neuronal Na channels preventing high frequency repetitive activity but not regular function, as blockage depends on number of channels attempting to be used

What IV drugs are given in status epilepticus?
A
Lorazepam or Diazepam
then Phenytoin
then anaethetist

What can happen when antiepiletics are withdrawn?
A
Rebound seizures
Only stop meds after 3 or 4 seizure free years
